End of Life Doula services

Practical and Emotional Support

  • Accompany the dying through presence and holding vigil.
  • Discuss how to care for those who choose (or not) to die at home.
  • Enable informed decision-making by working through the pros and cons of various options along the way.
  • Provide emotional support for the dying, family and friends throughout the process.
  • Prepare for what lies ahead, emotionally and physically.
  • Act as an advocate with medical, hospital, nursing and other staff.
  • Present funereal options.
  • Arrange funereal preparations and/or liaise with funeral homes.

Legal and Logistical Planning

  • Navigate and assist with filling out formal and legal paperwork. There are different legal and statutory requirements by state and country. 
  • Create other, less formal documents expressing one's wishes and preferences for the death process.
  • Ensure that choices are known to those who will be caring for the one who is dying.
  • Ensure that the wishes of the dying are being honoured.


Accompaniment

  • Serve as a “death midwife,” “death companion,” “spiritual midwife,” “end of life guide." 
  • Accompany the dying through presence and holding vigil, honouring the spiritual tradition, if any, of the dying.
  • Provide spiritual support and/or facilitate access to specialists of choice.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of an intimate, peaceful, sacred space whether at a hospital or home.
